3 DAY MOROCCO STUDENT DESERT TOUR — DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Read this itinerary carefully to know what you will expect in this amazing Marrakech desert tour 3 days for students.
Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
Your student Morocco tour begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech. The journey immediately becomes an educational experience as your licensed guide leads the group across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, rising to 2,260 metres above sea level. Along the way, students observe traditional Berber villages clinging to dramatic cliffsides, a perfect opportunity to discuss rural Moroccan life, mountain ecosystems, and the Amazigh (Berber) cultural heritage.
The first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic kasbahs in the world. Students explore the ancient clay-brick fortifications, learn about centuries of trans-Saharan trade history, and discover why this location has served as a backdrop for films including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Subsequently, the group continues to the Valley of Roses and the breathtaking Dades Valley for an overnight stay in a traditional guesthouse.
This route is also featured in our popular 3 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert — ideal for student groups looking for a structured, well-tested itinerary.
Day 2: Todra Gorges → Merzouga → Erg Chebbi Camel Trek → Desert Camp
Day two is, for most students, the most transformative day of their entire Moroccan adventure. After breakfast, the group heads towards the Todra Gorges, dramatic limestone canyons with walls rising over 300 metres above the riverbed.
From the gorges, the tour continues to Merzouga, the gateway to the iconic Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun begins to descend, students mount camels for a guided sunset trek deep into the Sahara Desert. In fact, many students describe this moment as the highlight of their entire trip.
Evening at the desert camp brings further cultural immersion. Students participate in traditional Berber music sessions, listen to storytelling from local nomadic guides, and fall asleep under a canopy of stars.
Explore our dedicated Camel Trekking Merzouga page for full details on the camel trek experience. You can also combine this with a desert quad riding excursion or a Merzouga buggy tour for additional adventure activities.
DAY 3: Dades Valley - Skoura - Ouarzazate - Ait Ben haddou - Marrakech
The last day of our 3 days Students tour from Marrakech, we advisably wake up early to watch a stunning sunrise from the camp. We will have our fresh breakfast in the same camp before we leave. Afterwards, you will cross the sand dunes back again to your driver, either by camel or 4×4 car; it’s up to you.
Getting in the car and starting to drive back to Marrakech with stops every 2 hours for short breaks. Finally, arriving in Marrakech in the evening, around 6 pm. In conclusion, our 3 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert is over. Thank you!!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1: What is the best time of year for a 3 day Morocco student desert tour?
The best time to visit the Sahara Desert is between October and April, when temperatures are comfortable during the day and cool at night. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are particularly popular with student groups, as the weather is mild and the desert landscapes are at their most photogenic. Summer months can be extremely hot in the desert; however, we do operate tours year-round for groups that are committed to travelling during that period.
Q2: Is the 3 day Morocco student desert tour suitable for large groups?
Absolutely. We regularly operate student desert tours for groups of 10 to 50+ students, with fleets of air-conditioned minibuses and multiple guides. We can also coordinate staggered departure times, parallel itineraries, and customised academic add-ons such as guided visits to local Berber schools or cooperative workshops. Contact us via our Contact page to request a bespoke group quote.
Q3: Can we start the tour from Fes instead of Marrakech?
Yes. To Morocco Travel offers 3 day student desert tours departing from Fes, Casablanca, Tangier, Ouarzazate, and Agadir, in addition to Marrakech. The 3 Day Fes Desert Tour and the 3 Days Fes to Marrakech Tour are both excellent options for groups beginning their Moroccan journey in the north.
Q4: What desert activities can student groups add to the tour?
Student groups can enhance their 3 day Morocco desert tour with a range of optional activities including sandboarding, 4×4 off-road excursions, quad biking, and buggy rides across the Erg Chebbi dunes. Visit our Desert Activities page for full details and pricing. All activities are supervised and safety-briefed by experienced local operators.
Q5: Does To Morocco Travel cater for student groups with specific academic needs?
Yes. We specialise in educational tours in Morocco and can design itineraries around specific academic disciplines, including geography fieldtrips, cultural studies, history programmes, Arabic language immersion, and sustainable development modules.
