Book your dream weekend trips to Morocco to live an authentic Sahara desert experience
WEEKEND TRIPS TO MOROCCO OVERVIEW
We know that studying abroad is about more than just sitting in a classroom; it’s about experiencing the world firsthand. That’s exactly why our weekend trips to Morocco are built with travelers in mind: safe, well-organized, genuinely exciting, and designed around the kind of tight schedules and budgets that come with academic life.
Our Morocco weekend trips take you from the colourful chaos of Marrakech’s medina all the way to the sweeping silence of the Sahara Desert. It’s a journey that packs in ancient kasbahs, towering mountain passes, rolling sand dunes, and campfire nights under some of the clearest skies you’ll ever see, all without the hassle of figuring it out on your own.
Our guides are local experts, our transport is comfortable and reliable, and the places we stay are carefully chosen so you can genuinely switch off and be present. You bring the curiosity, we’ll handle everything else.
STUDY ABROAD MOROCCO WEEKEND TRIP ITINERARY 4 DAYS
Day 1 (Thursday) — Arrival in Marrakech
Your Morocco weekend tour starts the moment you land. Our guide will be waiting at the airport to welcome you and get you settled into your hotel or riad in the heart of the city.
The rest of the day is yours. Wander down to Jemaa El Fna Square, the beating heart of Marrakech, where snake charmers, storytellers, and the smell of grilled street food hit you all at once. Stroll around the Koutoubia Mosque as the sun goes down. Or simply rest you’ve got a big day ahead.
Don’t worry about what time your flight lands. We accommodate arrivals at any hour, day or night.
Overnight: Hotel or riad in Marrakech Meals: Breakfast included
Day 2 (Friday) — Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Merzouga Desert
Rise early today, cover a lot of ground, and every kilometre is worth it.
You’ll wind your way up through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the legendary Tizi n’Tichka pass at over 2,200 metres. The mountain scenery here genuinely takes your breath away. From there, the landscape slowly shifts to drier, warmer tones as you descend toward the desert.
The first major stop is Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that looks like it was built for the movies, because it was. Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Indiana Jones, they all filmed here. Walking through the ancient mudbrick alleys and climbing to the hilltop viewpoint is one of those moments that sticks with you.
After lunch, you’ll pass through Ouarzazate, the so-called gateway to the Sahara, before the landscape opens up into something truly otherworldly. By late afternoon, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi come into view at Merzouga.
This is the moment everyone talks about. You’ll board your camel and ride into the dunes as the sun goes down, the sand shifting from gold to deep amber to rose. At camp, dinner is served under a sky bursting with stars, with Berber music drifting from the fire.
Overnight: Sahara desert camp Meals: Dinner & breakfast included
Day 3 (Saturday) — Desert Activities → Dades Valley
Wake up early if you can, the Sahara at sunrise is something else entirely. After breakfast, the morning is yours to enjoy the desert before we head out.
Optional activities include ATV and buggy rides across the dunes, and sandboarding, which is exactly as fun and chaotic as it sounds. Then it’s an easy drive through stunning landscapes to the Dades Valley, where you’ll check into your hotel and recharge after two action-packed days.
Overnight: Hotel in Dades Valley Meals: Dinner & breakfast included
Day 4 (Sunday) — Dades Valley → Ouarzazate → Marrakech
The last day offers a more relaxed pace. Take in the dramatic scenery of the Dades Valley before heading back toward Marrakech through the Rose Valley, particularly magical in spring when the flowers are in bloom, and passing through Ouarzazate one more time.
From there, you’ll cross back over the Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech in time for your return flight
